Challenge

99 Cents Only Stores has a strong presence in major markets such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Sacramento. With over 400 stores across the country, 99 Cents Only Store tasked Bloom Ads with bolstering their awareness campaigns paired with hyper-local targeting around specific markets and store locations to increase foot traffic and sales.

Approach

Utilized upper funnel awareness tactics supplemented by geo-targeting and conversion-driven local advertising tactics to efficiently and effectively increase store traffic and transaction counts in selected markets.

Google Stack

Utilized SEM and YouTube to drive awareness and foot traffic to specific store locations. 

While they dominated in other markets, some locations were falling behind. Targeted local YouTube ads and Search Engine Marketing strategies were used to bring shoppers inside the 99 Cents Only Stores locations that needed help boosting local foot traffic. The goal was to ensure that shoppers in their selected locations with certain search queries were directed toward the 99 Cents Only Stores. 

Radio

We utilized Terrestrial Radio, Streaming Audio, and radio sponsorships at premium local events to effectively reach our target demographic and drive local engagement.

Most people listen to terrestrial radio in their car – by getting people who are already on the go, we used media buying and planning expertise to set up radio ads right where locally based customers on the move would hear them. Local advertising depends on finding the right customers in the right place, which is exactly what Bloom managed for 99 Cents Only Stores. 

Meta

We generated awareness and fostered engagement by strategically deploying custom content on Facebook and Instagram, particularly during holidays and important sale time periods.

Through Meta’s use of awareness ads, Bloom helped the 99 Cents Only Stores stay at the top of its local customer’s minds everywhere from Facebook to Instagram. It helped introduce the brand to new potential customers, raising overall awareness. 

Display

By harnessing the power of first-party audiences, we expanded our reach and frequency on high-quality publisher websites. We achieved this by creating lookalike audiences and implementing retargeting campaigns, specifically tailored to promote each individual store location within contextually relevant categories.

Linear TV

We strategically leveraged high-impact linear TV programming in proximity to key store locations within a specific radius. The selection of programming was based on ratings and demographic viewer information to ensure maximum impact and engagement.

OOH

An innovative, dynamic form of local advertising, digital OOH advertising campaigns were set up in 99 Cents Only Stores’ target areas to help drive foot traffic. With measurable impact, digital OOH strategies included digital billboards, signage, and the networks found in stores, elevators, and public EV charging stations.
